Throughout history, powerful kings and leaders have appeared to steer the course of international affairs. Yet even these seemingly invincible figures could not escape their own demise throughout the timeline of history. Who, then, truly holds control over the destiny of humanity? In the midst of today’s economic upheavals, climate crises, and the devastations of war, how can we remain steadfast and navigate life with purpose?
The books of Kings reveal God’s sovereign plan. Only by doing what is right in the eyes of the Lord can we walk the path that leads to true prosperity and blessing. The Lord is a God of justice, righteousness, and loving faithfulness. He does not desire that anyone perish in this fallen world. That is why He sent prophets to proclaim His message:
“Turn from your evil ways and keep my commandments and my statutes, in accordance with all the law that I commanded your ancestors and that I sent to you by my servants the prophets..” (2 Kings 17:13)
Through the lens of history, the books of Kings point us to the right path today. The Lord God is the true Author of human history—and only He holds the answers to our lives. Those who hear His Word and follow it are the ones who will be truly blessed.

.The Introduction of Kings
The 1 and 2 Book of Kings records the division of the united kingdom of the Twelve Tribes of Israel into two: the northern and southern kingdoms, following the deaths of David and Solomon. From then on, both kingdoms fell under the bondage of idolatry, the brutality of kings warring against each other, and the turmoil of everyday life.?. Do you find this scenario similar to the present-day context, where doing right and wrong are ignored , and where “people fight against people, and nations against nations”?
Since we need to understand the way out of absurdity and conflict, God presents the historical truths of the Books of Kings in the Bible as a mirror for our time. Through the Books of Kings, God reveals a blessed and peaceful path for us. We earnestly hope that you will become wise, using God’s Word as a lamp for your feet and a light for your path!
1 and 2 Kings presents God’s precious revelation to Christians:
- History is His Story!
- The ministry of the prophets in declaring God’s will surpasses the accomplishments of the kings of Israel and Judah.
- The true meaning of life is found in doing what is right in the eyes of the Lord.

On October 7th, 2023, while Hamas, the Islamist militant group, was attacking Israel with 5,000 rockets, the production team of Spring of Water International Ministries (SOWIM) from North America and Taiwan was filming The Books of Kings Discipleship Bible Study videos at Mt. Scopus in Jerusalem. As the missiles passed near the battle’s edge, there was peace in the SOWIM team! Looking across the holy city of Jerusalem, which has endured many wars over the last thousand years, God’s words in the Bible became more real than ever: “Truly I tell you, this generation will not pass away until all things have taken place. Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.” (Luke 21:32-33)
In the midst of smoke and flame, the SOWIM team witnessed the devastating destruction of war! But through prayers, the Holy Spirit filled everyone with peace and courage. The team continued to move forward, remaining faithful to the mission entrusted by God, and successfully completed the entire filming of The Books of Kings Discipleship Bible Study videos.
